Alternative Techniques to Improving your Vertical Leap

Getting a better vertical leap is a life long dream of any serious athlete and a basketball player.  The ability to leap higher is always a good solution to athlete’s problems.  Imagine the wonderful slam dunks that you can make with a better and improved vertical leap.  This is mainly due to the fact that every one wants to improve their physical abilities.  However getting a better vertical leap is not a small event as it will require hard work and patience for you to succeed.  Of course, with proper planning and proper execution of your plan; you can be better at vertical leaping.  A proper vertical leap improvement plan should entail things like special exercises and psychological motivation to succeed.  The exercises that you must do should include stretching (for overall flexibility of your body), gymnastics (for toning and for stretching your muscles), pull ups / push ups (to increase your overall jumping strength), calisthenics (for proper conditioning of your body), yoga (for stretching your muscles and reducing the tension in your tendons), rope jumping (over all conditioning). These exercises will help you gain the vertical leap improvement that you need.

However, besides these regular exercises there are some alternative techniques that you can use to improve your vertical leap capability.  One such technique that you can use is the weightless jump routine that you can best perform in a pool.  Weightless jump technique is a special technique that has been developed by NASA for astronauts who spend time in outer space.  As you know, they are in a weightless environment and thus they will have to take controlled leaps in a gravity free environment.  This exercise was designed so that by using vertical leap, you would be able to propel yourself better in space.  You can do the adapted version of this exercise in a pool.  What you have to do is that you must be able to be able to float in the pool in a certain depth.  Then you will try to propel yourself out of the pool by trying to jump high without touching the base of the pool.  This is a great exercise that will help strengthen your lower back muscles so that you can achieve a higher vertical leap capability. If you are having too much difficulty, then you should try to propel yourself from the base of the pool for better results.  The best part about this technique is the fact that your tendons and joints will not be under pressure.  Also your muscles won’t overheat since you are in a pool environment. It is a great way to add an extra performance to your vertical leap capability.
